On Tuesday January 12th 2010 the island nation of Haiti was devastated by a massive earthquake. Much of the capital city of Port-au-Prince was severely damaged as a result, and the full impact of this disaster on the people of Haiti is too large to yet estimate accurately. On top of this, Haiti is a nation with major economic and infrastructure problems that will severely complicate their ability to cope with this disaster.
I urge anyone reading this to help in the effort to rebuild Haiti and to support the victims of this devastating tragedy. I have included links at the bottom of this post to some organizations that are accepting donations to help the people of Haiti.
As a small step to encourage people to support this cause, I am offering to send a DVD copy of “Battle for Terra”, signed by the director Aristomenis Tsirbas, to the first 100 people who donate at least $25 to the American Red Cross for their support campaign in Haiti.
To prove your eligibility, you must send an email to haiti@snoot.com with a PDF copy or scan of your donation receipt from the Red Cross. Please make sure that you include your mailing address in the email. To be fair, I will only be considering donations that were made after the publication of this blog posting. DVDs will be sent to the first 100 emails that we receive that meet these requirements, and I will update this page when the quota has been met.
This is made possible in large part by the generous support of the wonderful staff at our “Battle for Terra” distribution companies Roadside Attractions and Lionsgate.
If you think that this promotion would motivate your friends or family to donate their support for Haiti, please let them know about our offer.
Other links to support organizations:
[EDIT - Jan 14 - The ever gracious Rob Malda has linked to our campaign from Slashdot, and as a result the DVDs are going very quickly. We still have about half of the DVDs remaining as of 10:20am PST, but if you believe your friends or family would be interested in the offer I’d suggest letting them know quickly.]
[EDIT - Jan 19 - There are still about 30 DVDs remaining, and we have helped to raise $2,927.50. Please continue to spread this offer, if you believe it will encourage your friends or family to donate to this important cause.]
